What Data Does DentalTwin Need for a Digital Wax-up?

Ensure you submit the right scan data for fast, accurate AI-generated wax-ups.

Core Data Requirements

1. Intraoral or Model Scans

  • Provide complete scans of the upper and/or lower jaw.
  • Must be in STL, PLY, or OBJ format.
  • For full arch cases, at least 2 remaining teeth per jaw (before extraction) are required.

2. Occlusion Data

  • Ensure scans capture the patient’s correct bite.
  • This allows AI to define precise occlusion without manual bite registration.

3. Clinical Specifications

For accurate wax-up generation, include:

  • Which teeth are to be extracted.
  • Which teeth are already missing.
  • Abutment teeth numbers (using the FDI numbering system).

4. Pre-Operative Timing

  • Scans must be taken before extraction or implant surgery for immediate temporization workflows.

Why This Data Matters

DentalTwin’s AI uses anatomical landmarks on existing teeth and gingiva to rebuild missing teeth in the correct position and shape.

Accurate input data ensures:

  • Correct tooth anatomy.
  • Proper occlusion.
  • Minimal need for manual adjustments.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Submitting incomplete scans.
  • Scans with poor resolution or artefacts.
  • Missing bite registration data.
