How Are Eggshells Manufactured?

See how DentalTwin transforms your scan data into ready-to-print temporary restorations.

Step-by-Step Workflow

1. Pre-Operative Scan

  • Take an intraoral or model scan before tooth preparation, extraction, or implantation.
  • For full arch cases, ensure there are at least 2 remaining teeth per jaw before extraction for accurate AI reference.

2. Case Creation in DentalTwin

  • Log into the DentalTwin portal.
  • Click New Case+ and select DentaTEMP
  • Upload your scan files in STL, PLY, or OBJ format.

3. Specification Input

  • Indicate:
    • Teeth to be extracted
    • Teeth already missing
    • Abutment teeth (using the FDI tooth numbering system)
  • Add any clinical notes for design guidance.

4. AI-Driven Design

  • DentalTwin’s AI uses over 500,000 clinical cases as training data to generate a thin-walled (0.3–0.6 mm) restoration design.
  • Pontics are pre-formed to match the target anatomy and occlusion.

5. Technician Review

  • A DentalTwin technician reviews the AI output for accuracy and fit before approving it.
  • Once approved, the case status changes to Done.

6. STL File Delivery

  • The approved file is available for download after unlocking with credits or free cases.
  • Output is compatible with all major 3D printing and milling systems.

Where They’re Made

Eggshells can be:

  • Produced in-house – using your own 3D printer or milling machine.
  • Outsourced – sent to a trusted dental lab or milling centre.

Benefits of the Workflow

  • Prepares temporaries before the prep appointment.
  • Eliminates manual wax-up or silicone key steps.
  • Reduces chairside adjustments significantly.
