Accepted File Formats & Upload Guidelines

Ensure your files meet DentalTwin’s requirements for fast and accurate AI processing.

Supported File Formats

DentalTwin accepts the following 3D scan file formats:

  • STL – Standard Tessellation Language (preferred)
  • PLY – Polygon File Format
  • OBJ – Wavefront 3D Object File

General Scan Requirements

  • Complete Scan Coverage – Scan the jaw fully up to the tuberosities.
  • Reference Teeth – For full arch cases, at least 2 remaining teeth per jaw before extraction are required for accurate reconstruction.
  • High-Resolution Scans – Avoid low-quality or compressed exports that lose surface detail.
  • Correct Bite – Ensure proper bite registration before exporting scans.

File Preparation Tips

  • Naming Files Clearly – Use clear names such as “UpperJaw.stl” or “LowerJaw.ply” for easy identification.
  • Check File Size – While DentalTwin supports large files, optimizing size without losing detail can speed up uploads.

How to Upload in the Portal

  1. Log in to portal.dentaltwin.com.
  2. Click New Case+.
  3. Select your desired product.
  4. Click Browse to select files or drag and drop them into the correct upload area for each jaw.
  5. Fill in case details and submit.

Common Issues to Avoid

  • Incomplete Scans – Missing sections can cause inaccurate results.
  • Mismatched Bite – If occlusion data is wrong, it will affect the AI’s reconstruction.
  • Unsupported Formats – Files other than STL, PLY, or OBJ will be rejected.

Why Following These Guidelines Matters

Good scan quality ensures:

  • Faster AI processing
  • Higher accuracy in tooth anatomy and occlusion
  • Less need for recalculations or manual adjustments
