Accepted File Formats & Upload Guidelines
Ensure your files meet DentalTwin’s requirements for fast and accurate AI processing.
Supported File Formats
DentalTwin accepts the following 3D scan file formats:
- STL – Standard Tessellation Language (preferred)
- PLY – Polygon File Format
- OBJ – Wavefront 3D Object File
General Scan Requirements
- Complete Scan Coverage – Scan the jaw fully up to the tuberosities.
- Reference Teeth – For full arch cases, at least 2 remaining teeth per jaw before extraction are required for accurate reconstruction.
- High-Resolution Scans – Avoid low-quality or compressed exports that lose surface detail.
- Correct Bite – Ensure proper bite registration before exporting scans.
File Preparation Tips
- Naming Files Clearly – Use clear names such as “UpperJaw.stl” or “LowerJaw.ply” for easy identification.
- Check File Size – While DentalTwin supports large files, optimizing size without losing detail can speed up uploads.
How to Upload in the Portal
- Log in to portal.dentaltwin.com.
- Click New Case+.
- Select your desired product.
- Click Browse to select files or drag and drop them into the correct upload area for each jaw.
- Fill in case details and submit.
Common Issues to Avoid
- Incomplete Scans – Missing sections can cause inaccurate results.
- Mismatched Bite – If occlusion data is wrong, it will affect the AI’s reconstruction.
- Unsupported Formats – Files other than STL, PLY, or OBJ will be rejected.
Why Following These Guidelines Matters
Good scan quality ensures:
- Faster AI processing
- Higher accuracy in tooth anatomy and occlusion
- Less need for recalculations or manual adjustments
