IO Scan Requirements for Best Results

Follow these guidelines to ensure your intraoral scans work perfectly with DentalTwin AI.

Overview

The accuracy of your results depends heavily on the quality of the intraoral scan (IO scan) you provide.

High-quality scans mean better anatomical detection, smoother processing, and fewer recalculations.

Core Requirements

1. Full Arch Coverage

  • Scan the entire arch up to the tuberosities.
  • Do not leave gaps or missing regions in the scan.

2. At Least Two Reference Teeth

  • For full arch cases, a minimum of 2 remaining teeth per jaw must be present in the scan before extraction.
  • These teeth serve as landmarks for AI reconstruction.

3. Correct Occlusion

  • Ensure the bite is registered properly.
  • Errors in occlusion capture can lead to inaccurate setups.

4. High Resolution

  • Use the maximum resolution available in your scanner.
  • Avoid compression or low-quality export settings.

5. File Formats

  • Accepted formats: STL, PLY, OBJ.
  • Upload individual files directly — ZIP archives are not supported.

Best Practice Tips

  • Clean Scan Path: Move systematically and avoid stitching artefacts.
  • Check Before Export: Verify the scan visually to ensure no holes or overlaps.
  • Upper + Lower + Bite: Always include all three for optimal results.
  • Lighting and Moisture: Reduce saliva reflections for clearer surface data.

Why This Matters

Following these requirements ensures:

  • More accurate tooth and gingiva recognition.
  • Correct occlusion in the final setup.
  • Minimal need for recalculations or manual corrections.
